For example: Trollope, Mrs Gaskell, Hardy, Dickens and Kingsley. We tend to choose lesser-known works rather than the 'Classics'. We've also sampled Russian, French and American novels. Recently, we decided to extend our choice of books into the early 20th century, which has opened up the field to a host of interesting writers. We generally discuss a few titles before choosing one democratically. We are currently a small group, but there's plenty of room where we meet in The Sutton Arms - we have a corner all to ourselves and it's generally quiet, with refreshments available." We meet at 2.00pm on the third Friday of the month. |
